What is shea butter?

Shea Butter is a fat extracted from the nut of the African Shea (Karite) Tree. It comes in two solid forms: unrefined or refined. Shea Luxy products are made with unrefined shea butter. That means the product has not been processed with chemicals or harsh extraction methods. This allows the shea butter to retain all of it's luxy vitamins and moisturizing properties. Because shea butter is a solid butter/fat, it holds a lot of natural oils which may seem greasy; however this tends to dissipate a few minutes after application. 

Will shea butter clog my pores? Can I use it on my face?

Shea butter is a non-comedogenic fat, which means it will not clog pores. As a matter-of-fact, shea butter is excellent to use for acne, eczema, diaper rash, psoriasis, or rosacea. What does shea butter smell like?

Natural unrefined shea butter also has a very distinct characteristic nutty, smokey aroma. That is exactly what we look for in our shea butter. It should be soft, malleable, and melts easily upon contact with your skin.

Why is my product a different color than the last time I purchased it?

Because our shea butter is all natural and unprocessed, it may vary in color; however this does not disrupt the nourishing attributes for your skin. 

How long does shea butter last?

It has been said that shea butter can last as long as 2-3 years if stored properly. My shea butter has never lasted that long - I always use it all! When you get your Shea Luxy product, it should maintain its freshness for at least a year or longer if stored properly and you avoid getting it wet with water or other liquids. 

How do I store my product?

Shea butter and other body butter products should be stored in an airtight container in a cool dry place, away from the sun. If you use your product as soon as you get out of the shower/bathtub, do not get it wet. Introducing water to the product may lead to bacteria growth. Remember, these are all natural products with no added preservatives.
